Overview
Newtron Forensic Engineering is seeking a highly experienced and respected Practice Lead to build and lead our Mechanical & Materials Forensic Engineering practice. This is a strategic leadership opportunity to shape a premier practice group focused on mechanical system and materials failure investigations. The successful candidate will provide expert insight on complex equipment and system failures, support litigation and insurance claims, and drive technical excellence in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Management Requirements
- Build and lead a high-performing Mechanical & Materials forensic team
- Define and implement strategic direction aligned with corporate objectives
- Represent the firm as an expert in legal, insurance, and technical settings
- Cultivate relationships with insurers, legal counsel, manufacturers, and contractors
- Provide oversight and quality assurance for technical reports and expert opinions
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers
- Promote collaboration and continuous learning across practice groups
Technical Requirements
We seek a candidate with deep proficiency in key areas below and the leadership acumen to guide a team that collectively addresses this full range of technical expertise.
- Mechanical failure analysis (HVAC, plumbing, pumps, valves, chillers, boilers, elevators, compressors)
- Metallurgical and materials failure (corrosion, fatigue, weld failure, coatings, elastomers, plastics)
- Forensic analysis of fire suppression systems and pressure vessels
- Building envelope component failure related to mechanical or material degradation
- Industrial equipment and system failures in manufacturing, food processing, and resource sectors
- Root cause investigations and damage assessments following fire, water, and impact events
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, CSA, NFPA)
- Experience preparing demonstrative evidence and litigation support materials
Educational Background
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgical, or related Engineering discipline. (Ph.D. an asset)
License Requirements
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for licensure
- Expert witness experience or recognized testimony credentials (preferred)
Market Expertise
- Legal and insurance markets requiring forensic and expert analysis
- Industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential building systems
- Contractors, manufacturers, law firms, insurers, and subrogation professionals
Project Experience
- Minimum 10 years of engineering experience
- Minimum 5 years in forensic investigation or litigation support (preferred)
- Demonstrated leadership on complex or high-profile mechanical/materials failures
